The eBay price on the i appears to have dropped substantially, I don’t really know what the reason for that might be. Please just post your whole dmesg, so e. I can walk you through it but I’d need to dig up my old notes on that.
I used a different computer to perform the flash without issue. If you don’t, then it is under the “mfi” driver and it is a RAID card. And so far, things like hot adding a drive seem to work fine. Fakes are becoming a bigger and bigger problem. I always stick with freebse that have good return policies in case they are fakes.

LSI SAS2008 performance with mps(4) driver
Once the M was flashed to IT mode, I was able to place the card back into the intended machine and use it with out issue. You can freebsc control-C during that to get to the card configuration utility. I honestly doubt this is the driver issue.
